Specialties these employers seek include computer-based modeling and simulation, security computer specialists, information management, software and systems engineers and general information technology.

In the private sector, the long term job outlook for computer graduates is strong in several sub-fields of computer technology. According to the New York Job Source’s article “Computer Support Specialists and Systems Administrators,” even with the down turn in the economy the job outlook for computer tech graduates in network and computer systems administration is growing faster than other areas of computer technology. This increase in jobs is expected to be greater than 25 percent through 2016. A second area high in demand for graduates with computer degrees is computer security specialists. This demand is due to concerns with viruses, hackers, terrorists, etc.

Even with the economic decline, the job outlook for computer tech graduates is still strong with more than 3.8 million computer tech jobs.
