Let's Set The Record Straight - Women CAN Do It - And SHOULD

Have you seen the findings of the latest study which showed that the United States was number fifteen of well over one hundred countries in the number of murders. Ranking in the top 5 for violent assaults, we're also coming in third, only behind South Africa and Canada, for violence against women.

Why is this?

Do you know?

I know I don't.

I have my beliefs as I'm sure you do. But do you know what I DO know? I know...

I know that I DON'T care why!

Now, as cold and heartless as that sounds, let me explain my position.

As a warrior focused on being able to deal with violence coming at me, I don't care "why" it's coming at me at that moment. Because, at that moment, it's too late to do anything about the "why."

At THAT moment, the only thing that matters is whether or not I can and will be able to be the last one standing when it's all over.

And there-in lies one of the greatest problems when it comes to the realm of self-defense - especially self-defense for women. And that is that...

...everybody's hoping that the problem will go away before they have to deal with it.

Let me say right now for the record, that there's nothing wrong with...

Working toward eliminating crimes like assault and murder.
Educating the public about the level of violence against women. And...
Seeking to understand why it's occurring so that it can be eradicated.

But, as any warrior will tell you, you first need to make sure that it can't take you out while you're working on the solution. Countries seek to establish and maintain peace. But they don't shut down their armies just because they've achieved their goal, or close to it.

While we are certainly not in charge of countries, we are in charge of our own choices and ability to survive and succeed in the world. Yes ladies, that means you too. Today, you carry on the fight of your mothers and grandmothers to have equal rights and equal power in the world, so act on it.

Long gone are the days when you couldn't stand up for yourself. Now, you have just as much right to learn to defend yourself and fight for your own safety as men. You CAN do it.

And with the level of assaults - with the continuing perpetration of violence against women - more so here in the United States and Canada than even in those third world countries that have been accused of social atrocities, you have a moral imperative to take action. That means that...

...not only CAN you get the training you need, but...

...you have a responsibility to yourself and those who depend on you to do it!

It used to be the norm that only one-in-eight college girls could expect to be raped or sexually assaulted while in school. Of course I say that with a certain cringe on my face. Only one-in-eight?!

Holy crap!

And yet, the newest statistic now shows it's closer to...

...One-in-four!

I'm not a woman, but you know what? I am the father of three beautiful girls and two granddaughters. In my world, they don't have a choice. They WILL learn how to protect themselves while we're all standing around reading reports about how bad things are and wondering what to do about it. In my world, they don't have a choice because...

...I DON'T have one!

It's my responsibility to protect them, and that means insuring that they can protect themselves...

...EVEN when I'm NOT around.

Of course in your own life, the choice is yours.

Cool, huh? Empowering, isn't it?

Sure.

You have the power to choose.

You can choose to empower yourself with skills that you hope you'll never need, or...

...you can hope that nothing happens and wish you would have taken action when you had the chance...

...as you feel him breaking your body, mind, and spirit while he's beating and driving you into submission - if he stops there.

Pretty rough description, I know. But I ask you...

...what's going to make you take the action you need for your own self-defense? If you're a husband, significant other, or father (moms, you should be dragging your daughters to class with YOU!)...

...what's going to make you suggest, no, INSIST that the women in your life make it a priority to get this area of their lives, of YOUR lives, handled?

You know what?

If it means that you hate me for saying things this way but you get the steamroller-sized hint I'm throwing at you, then...

...I'm good with that!
